Description
Bigos, also known as hunter’s stew, is a classic Polish dish that combines various meats and cabbages, creating a rich and hearty meal perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g pork
- 300g beef
- 200g sausage
- 300g regular cabbage
- 200g fermented cabbage
- 2 onions
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Begin by chopping the pork, beef, and sausage into bite-sized pieces. Dice the onions and mince the garlic.
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, sautéing until translucent. Then add the meats and brown them on all sides.
- Once the meats are browned, add the regular and fermented cabbage to the pot. Stir in the paprika, black pepper, and salt.
- Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low. Allow the bigos to simmer for at least 4 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- After cooking, let the bigos sit overnight in the refrigerator to enhance the flavors before reheating and serving.
Notes
- Allowing your bigos to sit overnight improves the flavors.
